    Why? Why? and Why?

  • 3-D television appears dead on arrival, and the weak reaction to 'Sanctum' isn't a good sign for the format in 2011. Will a 3-D Gatsby really bring in the tween set? Doubtful.

Why on earth is the being made?

It goes without saying that Luhrmann is a hack, but add corporate tool to his description as well. I'm sure the studio is salivating at the thought of the added charge per ticket for 3D. If this goes well, maybe Citizen Kane will be remade in 3D by McG?
Gotta love Luhrmann's decision to film Gatsby in Australia. Nothing says American classic like a film shot by an Australian in Australia, with a dumpy looking English lead actress. BTW Spargo, there is nothing pretty about either Carey Mulligan (massively altered screen test photo notwithstanding) or Tobey Maguire, though out of the two, Maguire is the prettiest.

I think Carey M's plenty pretty enough to be Daisy; that's not the point.
    The point is HUHHHHH???
Gatsby? Luhrmann? 3D? WHY ARE ALL OF THESE WORDS IN THE SAME PARAGRAPH? I'm still waiting (read "hoping") for someone to pop up and go "Gotcha! Hahahaha. Had you going there for a while though, didn't we?" I mean, seriously, this is an April Fool's Day joke if I ever heard one. Well, I won't be trolled. I'll play along. Yes. Luhrmann. Excellent choice. We're settled on DiCaprio for Gatsby, I'm presuming Maguire is Nick? Are you *sure* we can't go with Matthew McConaughey as Gatsby? I just wanna make sure this project can be everything I hope it will be.

I have to agree with Brian on this one. Carey Mulligan is a very talented actress but pretty isn't quite in her range.
And if you're going to do a classic novel in 3-D, why this one? I still believe 3-D would haved Demi Moore's THE SCARLET LETTER.

  • SunnydaZe says:

In this version, Gatsby will go into bullet time and do a back-flip out of the pool. While in mid-air, he will open fire with his gold-plated double handguns sending Wilson flying backwards into a white column which then explodes in delicious slow motion. Gatsby will then land on his feet at the side of the pool and the entire cast will surround him and sing, "You're Great, Gatsby!" as the audience goes into an 3-D enhanced epileptic fit.

Please, don't ever let this see the light of day...

When will Hollywood stop making every comic book into a movie?
