Is Glee About to Take On Sarah Palin and the Tea Party?

SarahPalinGlee225.jpgGlee executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck may be shifting their attention to an FX project called American Horror Story this April, but for now it looks like the pair will be tackling another kind of American horror story on an upcoming episode of their Fox musical series: Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. Exclusive casting details ahead.

In Friday's casting breakdowns, Glee producers submitted a posting for two roles that need to be cast immediately. The first is for a character named Tammy Jean, a middle-aged "recent Tea Party candidate and home schooler -- a Sarah Palin type." It is unclear when the season two episode will air but it will begin shooting Tuesday.

A conservative storyline would not be a surprise for Glee fans as Ryan Murphy has previously discussed adding a right-wing character to the McKinley High mix.

"We've taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year," Murphy told TV Guide last June. "So what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognize and say, 'Oh, look -- I'm represented there, too!' If we're trying to form a world of inclusiveness, we've got to include that point of view as well."

Gleeks will recall that Sarah Palin was directly referenced last year in one of Sue Sylvester's best quips to date. While reprimanding Santana and Brittany, the Jane Lynch character spat, "You may be two of the stupidest teens I've ever encountered -- and that's saying something. I once taught a cheerleading seminar to Sarah Palin."

In addition to Tammy Jean, Glee producers are also looking to cast Sister Mary Constance, a middle-aged African-American and exotic dancer-turned-Carmelite Nun.

  • Yeah, horror. Regular folk gathering to address issues they care deeply about by forming protest marches and working within the system - yet pegged as racist for doing so without any credible proof. There's the actual horror.

I think you meant to say racists attempting to appear as regular folk.

I like glee, i really do and I'm also right of center as is most of America as per polling and surveys suggest. I just hope that this casting of a "sarah palin" type doesn't go out its way to insult the majority of Americans.

  • Aleric says:

I guess it takes one to know one isnt that right Stoli??
But what can you expect from people with Palin Derangement Syndrome, it seems to be a requirement in Hollywood these days.

  • stolidog says:

    huh?

  • stolidog says:

    good luck with that.

  • PhilipJames says:

Just more crap from a crap show talking about crap thought of by crap minds. Who cares except people with an IQ just south of 82... or am I aiming too high when I think of the audience for Glee and the writers of the show?

  • Jake says:

Stolidog isn't a racist...he just wishes for the destruction of the entire White race.
Go on, ask him. He'd be happiest if he woke up tomorrow and all Whites were gone. Then, he could teach the whole World to sing in harmony.
But he cries over endangered species. He believes man is just an animal, but White men are undeserving of the consideration you'd offer a Dodo bird.
In other words...he's a hateful hypocrite who wishes to greatly alter the natural order in to better fit his political ideology. He doesn't care about "indigenous" peoples unless they happen to be the right shade of brown.

  • stolidog says:

oh my god, thanks. that made me chuckle in my cubicle.

  • Jake says:

No problem...somehow it makes sense that someone with such a narrow mind is the product of staring at cheap fake walls 5 days a week. Narrow in, narrow out, as they say.
I find it amusing that someone who has so little imagination...as evidenced by your willingness to spend the majority of your time inside an artificial little box, feels qualified to offer opinions on problems that have affected the World since the dawn of time. It is Friday...shouldn't you be more worried about your weekly poster rearranging session? Gotta have a fresh view for next week, don't you know. I can't help but feel that if you put Monday Monkey in just the right spot you could have the entire World singing Kumbayah by next week.

  • Jcush says:

This coming from a group of writers that thought Palin was a cheerleader. (She was a basketball player in HS)
Do some damn research first before attacking someone with your narrow views Hollywood.

  • jeff-minneapolis says:

Hey why you ripping on the show, obviously it's working. Don't you like the free market? Just because it's pissing on your hero doesn't mean you need to act like you have sand in your vagina.

  • JD in Alaska says:

Awww, what's the matter? Did Glee reject your spec script? Again? Well keep at it. Who knows, one of these days you may actually be a success in this business.

  • Please prove the Tea Party is racist .... you can start by asking Allen West. And don't try bringing up the "N-word on the Capitol" incident. That's been thoroughly debunked even if the media couldn't bother to correct the record.

  • John Shupe says:

It's unprofessional for Julie Miller to attack a politician and a political movement by calling it an "American Horror Story" in a non-editorial story. The fact that an editor didn't care to edit Miller's needlessly offensive remark shows that this kind of attitude is encouraged at MovieLine. I won't be coming back.
    Amateurs....

I like Glee. I wouldn't let me young children watch it, but I think it's hilarious. I also like Sarah Palin. I'm really tired of having my political views gratuitously attacked in TV shows and movies. Why are they so determined to alienate 1/2 their audience? I was offended by the Sue/Palin comment, but I shrugged it off, because I love Sue and she makes me laugh. But c'mon, can't they just drop the Palin attacks?
