Weekend Receipts: The Roommate Signs The Lease For Number One

As most of America gets ready to watch Green Bay pummel the Steelers, Leighton Meester made the weekend hers as The Roommate hit the top spot. Sanctum lost itself at a distant second place and America's Horny Sweetheart, Natalie Portman, settled for the third spot. Your weekend receipts are here.

1. The Roommate

Gross: $15,600,000 (new)

Screens: 2,534 (PSA: $6,156)

Weeks: 1

I wonder if Gossip Girl will turn into Friends, where there's unspoken but very palpable race between the cast members as to who can establish a film career first. It may seem like easily befuddled hooker Blake Lively might have it in the bag, but don't worry Leighton! I have a feeling Green Lantern is going to tank. The future will be yours!

2. Sanctum

Gross: $9,225,000 (new)

Screens: 2,787 (PSA: $3,310)

Weeks: 1

Each time I see the title Sanctum, I immediately read it as Santorum. And I don't really mean the nutball former Senator. Now that would be a truly terrifying 3D movie.

3. No Strings Attached

Gross: $8,400,000 ($9,225,000)

Screens: 3,050 (PSA: $3,310)

Weeks: 3 (change: -37.4%)

It's been a long winter, and despite what some clairvoyant rodent says, there's more yet to come. As such, I've decided I want to do my best to dub Natalie Portman "America's Horny Sweetheart." It'll probably take more work than I'm willing to put in, but a boy can dream, no?

4. The King's Speech

Gross: $8,310,000 ($84,125,000)

Screens: 2,584 (PSA: $3,216)

Weeks: 11 (change: -24.9%)

I like this movie, I really do; Colin Firth, Helena Bonham-Carter and Geoffery Rush are all fantastic and pitch perfect here. But here's my problem with it--what would have happened if Bertie did screw up that last speech? He still would've been king, right? It's like the Nazis would have have been marching on Piccadilly if he stammered his way through it.

5. The Green Hornet

Gross: $6,100,000 ($87,222,000)

Screens: 2,011 PSA: $3,033)

Weeks: 4 (change: -45.5%)

Godalmighty, but am I tired of writing about this crappy, disappointing movie. So I'll just tell you that I re-watched The Godfather this weekend. It's really good, guys!
