Lea Michele Didn't Mean to Almost Make Hailee Steinfeld Cry

hailee_steinfeld_getty225.jpgAttention, Americans: You can sleep again. Less than three weeks after it was revealed that Glee star Lea Michele blew off True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld to such a harsh degree on the Paramount lot that the blingatude-y youngster almost cried, it appears one of Hollywood's most adorable burgeoning feuds has been put to bed. With dessert even!

You'll recall that Hailee told J-14 magazine about the harrowing incident:

I saw Lea Michele just walking to her trailer, and I was like, 'That's the girl from Glee. I've got to go ask for her autograph!' So I walked up to her and asked for her autograph, but she walked by and a guy came and said, 'Sorry, now's not a good time!'

As it turns out, that "guy" was mostly at fault, and Michele didn't know what was even happening. "I heard Hailee was upset and feel terrible," Lea told Gossip Cop. "The Glee schedule is so jam-packed that the PA probably pulled me so that I wouldn't be late to set. I never meant to hurt her feelings. She's an extraordinary talent and I look forward to meeting her one day."

That's good enough for Hailee, who told MTV that it was just a case of "bad timing." Or maybe not. "I was so embarrassed because of what I was wearing. The only thoughts that were going through my head were, 'Oh my god, Lea Michele thinks I'm a total freak.' Everything is totally fine though." It sure is, Hailee. Just don't expect to get a guest spot on Glee; you do not call out Lea Michele in a public forum. Even if it's the PA's fault.

Dude, old news. No one cares. And why are people always bashing on Lea? Is it because no one likes her character? Because I've met her at the stage door in NY and she was totally sweet.

  • HwoodHills says:

Let's be honest, Miss Steinfeld is young but she's worked as a lead in a major motion picture. Chances are pretty good she knows the difference between having a P.A. alert someone about a call to set and someone being rude.

  • TurdBlossom says:

Riiiiiiiight. After seeing which way the wind is blowing (and being shit on in the internet repeatedly), Lea is now in damage control. Too little, too late.

  • TurdBlossom says:

Love how Lea's explanation if you read between the lines seems to suggest that if she knew it was someone important, as opposed to one of the unwashed masses, she would have stopped to chat.

  • HwoodHills says:

And make sure to give Miss Steinfeld credit for handling her "post comment made" moment successfully.
She probably got a reaming from her reps and PR person after it was published. (Even if it was said with a smile and a laugh while being delivered out of context.)
But then again...Maybe she was just "on the crack" (as my grandmother refers to the subject.)

  • GrowUp says:

The tabloid media's obsession with making Lea the villain of every story, even one's she's not directly involved in, is extremely pathetic and classless. I also find it sexist that the focus of articles like this are generally women.

  • Frank says:

Please as first stated it wasn't a good time. People bashing Lea need to put themselves in her shoes. She was at work plain and simple. Hailee was never upset she didn't get the autograph she was upset cause she thought she looked silly. Lea probably doesn't even remember the encounter if happen months ago maybe up to a year ago, and said what probably happen not what did happen. Time to lay off Lea.

  • Mary F says:

This happen before her role in the movie so yeah she might not no the working on a tv set. Lea apologizes for the situation be it her fault or not. Hailee accepted. Sometime people perceive things differently or maybe just may it was a bad time. People are so quick to judge it is truly sad.

  • Kathy says:

It doesn't say that at all. You need to reread cause that is not implied at all.

  • Jeff says:

unfairly shit on you should say.

  • BobbyBlack says:

    Thanks for joining us, Lea.

  • QuiZMars says:

Actually, if you read carefully, she was crying because she thought Lea didn't give her the autograph on account on her looking "like a freak".
If Lea hadn't been a wee bit of a c*nt, the girl probably wouldn't have cried.

  • truth says:

This is so old-plus like all the other gossip people they get it wrong-Here is information from an actual reporter:
It's a story that has been played out just as much as a story about autographs can get played out, and people are once again using this to wrongfully claim that "Glee" star Lea Michele is a "diva" when she works on set.
So what are we talking about? In an interview to promote "True Grit" with J-14, Hailee Steinfeld said that when she was filming the movie on the same lot as the hit Fox show, she at one point attempted to get Lea's autograph but was turned away by a production assistant. Then, this somehow turned into a case of Lea "refusing" to sign something, and spread like a horrible virus.
Now, Lea is forced to defend herself, even though she really didn't do anything wrong.

This story is so old and again the so called reporter can not get the facts right:

Maybe all you people who enjoy cutting people down should get the story straight and not from a bunch of gossipers

  • Kat says:

This story does not have the whole account. It says nothing about how she was dressed where as in the original story and Hailee's follow up she talks about how she was embarrassed by how she was dressed. That is how this whole thing started the interviewer asked her about an embarrassing moment.

  • Stupity runs amok says:

Really she isn't able to give an autograph and you call her that. That is ridiculous and say more about you than anyone else. This is so stupid and has been used as nothing more that a weapon to hate on someone for something that every celebrity has done, not been able to give an autograph for some reason or another.

  • Winona says:

    Okay Lea.

  • truth says:

You bet between my 16 hour days at work I have nothing better to do

  • Joan says:

How could she do anything before she even knew it happened. Hailee said it happened as she was auditioning for the movie like a year ago.
Lea did n;t even knowit happend unitl it wa son the internet, so she apologised for the mistake and as stated by Hailee herself it was just bad timing.
