And That's When Lea Michele Almost Made True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld Cry

hailee_steinfeld_getty225.jpgWe're obviously on Team Jacki around these parts, but that doesn't mean we don't have a tremendous soft spot for Hailee Steinfeld. The True Grit teen star has displayed poise, humor and blingatude during the initial stages of awards season, and now -- like Mattie Ross -- she's even showing herself to be a master at revenge. Just take a peek at how she gets back at Glee star Lea Michele for making her "practically" cry.

Oh, sorry, buried the lede there: Lea Michele pretty much made Hailee Steinfeld cry.

When I was auditioning for True Grit, I was on the Paramount lot. I was wearing clothes from the 1800s that were big and uncomfortable. Glee also films on the lot, and I love the show," Steinfeld told J-14 magazine. "I saw Lea Michele just walking to her trailer, and I was like, 'That's the girl from Glee. I've got to go ask for her autograph!' So I walked up to her and asked for her autograph, but she walked by and a guy came and said, 'Sorry, now's not a good time!'"

The young actress, who stars alongside Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges in Grit, was so heartbroken by the brush off that she left in tears. "I had to walk all the way back to the car wearing what I was wearing. I was practically crying on the way home," Steinfeld said. "I was so sad! But she's beautiful, and she has an amazing voice."

Let's count the ways this is awesome: First of all, Steinfeld initially referred to Michele as "that girl," which is the supreme way to take a diva down a notch. Second, though, is this: "But she's beautiful, and she has an amazing voice." It seems that even at the young age of 14, Hailee still knows her way around a well-placed "but." Outstanding. Tune in next week to see if this bit of public payback gets Hailee an even higher position on the Oscar Index. Fingers crossed!

    Lea Michele acting like a super bitch diva? But Ryan Murphy (and the rest of the Glee cast at his insistance) have gone on the record about what a pearl she is!

  • Jan says:

    What a whiny little brat with an awful sense of entitlement. She interrupts someone while they're at work (the acknowledged busiest member of Glee who does most of the singing, acting, recording, etc), that person isn't even rude in their dismissal of her (if she even noticed her), she acts like an over emotional 14 year old girl, makes it big (ish) and proceeds to smear her rival (which is all undoubtedly in her head) through the media, and you want me to congratulate her? Please.

  • SaltySue says:

    ...proceeds to smear her rival (which is all undoubtedly in her head)...
    No, I think it is all in your head. She never said anything about Lea being her rival, there's a 10 year age difference between them for Christ's sake.

  • Eric says:

    It's not rude to refuse to acknowledge someone who's speaking to you? Wow, that's...a unique view of respectful behavior.
    And "interrupting someone while they're at work" is a pretty misleading way to describe asking someone for their autograph when they're walking to their trailer.

  • Jan says:

    @Eric,
    She's on the lot where they film her show, she's at work and obviously busy. I think it's annoying to ask celebrities to drop everything to talk to just because you identify yourself as a fan. Could she have been nicer? Maybe. But this just seems super lame.
    @SaltySue,
    The 'rival' bit was more of a shot at the article writer who was commending Hailee for getting her 'revenge' than the two involved. So no, not "all in [my] head," learn the art of context please.

  • Huffy says:

    Last time I checked she IS a 14-year-old girl. I think she can be forgiven for trying to get an autograph then talking about how disappointed she was when she got turned down. On the other hand Michele, an adult, should have at least had the decency to look her in the eye and say "No, I'm busy right now" (as if signing an autograph takes more than 5 seconds).

  • SaltySue says:

    And you my friend need to learn the art of sarcasm, why on earth would you take this fluff piece of an article seriously.

  • Michael Farmer says:

    Stars are generally retarded, however even 'pearls' are allowed to have a moment... you know where their like 'o my god I just leaked urine down my leg and its a quarter mile to f'ing trailer and there is nothing closer and who the hell is this who just called me 'that girl'?

  • any says:

    so much drama for nothing, so what?! an actress was working running around from the set to the trailer, at her work place and she didn't had time.
    wow, yeah she is the worst person in the Earth because of that.

  • gaby says:

    the actress was working, on a full scheduale, and so over reacting cry baby to cry for this.
    don't know any of them, but the kid sounded like a spoiled brat.

  • erika says:

    I think she might have obviously been busy. She didn't actually say anything to her to insult her.
    way to make so much of nothing.

  • [A] says:

    First, Lea Michele is a girl? Thought it was a guy (because of the 'stache, mostly). Second, who the f**k is Lea Michele? Really, all she does is overreact and yell. Hailee Steinfeld gave one of the best performances on film of 2010 -- so everyone from tv and this GLEE travesty can go suck it (while butchering classic songs)

    this story is soo one sided and lame. it's another story on back page trying to make it to front page. seriously is snubbing somebody in hollywood much of a story? next time a story like this comes out, add some catfight. that would be a front page.
