As you may have noticed around these parts, the end of the calendar year brings a plethora of Top-10 lists from an assortment of categories. But why should Movieline's staff have all the fun? Let's hear from Adam Scott, whose Parks and Recreation returns to NBC on Jan. 20th and who wrote in to share his own favorite things from the last year in pop culture. Take it away, Adam.
Daddy Longlegs
This is my favorite movie of the year. Exciting, disturbingly good film-making, and a freight train of a performance by Ronald Bronstein.
The Social Network
Enough has been said about this movie already, but damn it's good. Terrific, unusual, lovely performances from Jesse Eisenberg, Rashida Jones, Max Minghella and the whole cast.
Jenny and Johnny, "I'm Having Fun Now"
Handmade and heartbreaking, with more hooks than my dad's tackle box (sorry for saying that last part).
Amy Poehler hosting SNL
We got Amber the one-legged chronic farter and many others when Amy hosted and showed everyone how it's done.
Larry Sanders Complete Series Box Set
Every comedy worth its salt on television today owes a debt of gratitude to this incredible show.
The War for Late Night by Bill Carter
I'd read The Late Shift twice, and devoured this one in a couple of days. Fascinating. Looking forward to reading it seven more times.
R.E.M. Live At The Olympia
Thirty-nine songs make up what is both one of the best live records ever and an excellent overview of an extraordinary career -- all while looking straight forward with early versions of songs from the amazing Accelerate. A stone cold bargain.
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
This is a new kind of filmmaking. Will be discussed and ripped off till we are dead.
Friday Night Lights
I don't care about football at all, and this show had me standing up and cheering. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are truly, truly great.
iPad
Everything on this list can be enjoyed on an iPad. Anyone who says the iPad isn't totally rad is totally lying.
