Glee's Chris Colfer Talks Golden Globes, Tonsillitis Outbreaks, and Romance with Blaine

colfer225.jpgTo say Glee's Chris Colfer is basking in the glow of his first Golden Globe nomination for his role as McKinley High's estranged gay pioneer Kurt is a bit of an understatement. "I'm so excited I've been tackling everyone I've seen on set today," he enthuses, before adding with a chuckle, "Whether I know them or not!" Not everyone in the Glee cast shares Colfer's enthusiasm, however. "Ashley Fink [Lauren] sent me a hysterical text message," he recalls. "She said she was excited that I was nominated but she was more excited for Burlesque."

The Fox phenom netted a total of five Globe nominations -- more than any other series. In addition to the show receiving a best comedy nod, Colfer's co-stars Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, and Jane Lynch got singled out. The kudos boost comes just days after production on the Super Bowl episode was shut down due to an outbreak of tonsillitis. Make that an alleged outbreak of tonsillitis.

"Who's spreading this rumor?" questions Colfer. "I really thought we had shut down production on Friday because there was too much fog. I had no idea anyone was sick. But you know how people stretch things. One of us gets a head cold and suddenly we all have bird flu." (A rep for 20th Century insists production was halted after several cast members fell ill. Tweets from Dianna Agron and Kevin McHale would seem to back this up.)

One thing everyone seems to agree on, however, is that the addition of Colfer's new on-screen crush Darren Criss has been a huge success. Is a Kurt/Blaine romance inevitable? "Fans really want it to happen," he hedges. "It's funny how many people want to see these boys hook up. We'll see."

This isn't his second consecutive Golden Globe nomination. He wasn't nominated for one last year. He was nominated for an emmy last year.

Nooo Kurt/Blaine... well they're cute and all, but they're SO boring, they're rivaling even Sam/Quinn's snoreworthy scenes. Sam/Kurt would be so much more interesting and not to mention hotter! I can't wait for Kurt to leave Dalton already, having him apart from the rest of McKinley is just awful. Something needs to be done about Karofsky so Kurt can come back where he belongs, his talent is being stifled and wasted with the Warblers.

  • I was really happy to see Chris Colfer get recognized this year. His story line that's involved the bullying/gay bashing and his performance in the Grilled Cheesus episode have just been outstanding. I can't wait to see the Super Bowl episode, last years Super Bowl show was the first one I'd ever seen and I was immediately hooked as a fan for life. Go Glee!

I'm so happy for Chris! But I want Kurt to come back to WMHS, b/c he only gets one or two scenes per week now and not with New Directions! I hope he wins the Golden Globe AND an Emmy this year. He's a terrific actor and Kurt is an important character on television. Kurt needs to go back and confront Karofsky. Come on, Ryan Murphy, make it happen!

sorry, but kurt's storyline has gone on a wee bit too long. Enough already, at least for a while.

I agree with STOLIDGOG. Just saying.

I was just thinking how the story lines tend to shrivel up and not go anywhere: Quinn's pgcy ends in adoption, Kurt and Finn's parents get married, Britanny and Santana dabble with same-sex making out, Sue acts as interim principle, Finn gets kicked off the football team then gets reinstated....
It is clear that the show's strength is in the singing and dancing, not its story lines.
    My $.02.

I hope Kurt goes back to McKinley High. I miss him singing with the others. Congratulations on winning the Golden Globe.
