Transformers: Dark of the Moon Announcement Trailer: Meet the Wise Grandfather-bot

I'm happy to report that the new "announcement trailer" for Transformers: Dark of the Moon is almost entirely comprehensible. None of the effects shots move faster than the human brain, and there's actually a nice sense of atmosphere and build-up to the whole thing. Maybe Michael Bay listened to the backlash from the last film. It's also possible that none of this footage is in the movie, since I have no idea what an "announcement trailer" actually is.

In case you've forgotten, this film stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Patrick Dempsey. But none of those people are in this trailer. Instead, backing up the cold-war plot leaked by that children's pop-up book, this trailer takes us back to the moon landing in the 60s when the U.S. showed Russia who was boss.

But it turns out that astronauts found something surprising on the dark side of, I mean, in the dark of the moon. Hint: It's a transformer. This particular transformer appears to be very old and wise (see above photo). He even has what I think is a robot beard. Let's hope he advised Bay on how to direct some of the fight scenes.

Verdict: I'm still holding out for Transformers: Wish You Here, but explain to me what an "announcement trailer" is in relation to a trailer and a teaser, and then we'll talk.
