Bludgeoned from all sides by hype (Nicki Minaj), hubris (Kanye West), cosmetically enhanced treacle (Katy Perry) and/or some unholy hybrid of all three (Glee), I can't really overstate the palliative rush to be had from David Lynch's swell new electro-pop single "Good Day Today." Yes -- that David Lynch. And yes -- it lives up to its name.
Sure, you may have hoped the 64-year-old filmmaker's latest artistic statement might be, you know, a movie -- or anything restoring him to cinematic supremacy after far too long away. (Can we please just agree that 2006's Inland Empire was not it? Thanks.) Meanwhile, this will have to do: An upbeat number of robotic pleas to "Send me an angel / Save me" and soaring incantations that someone's "gonna have a good day today." Just add a laser pistol and a few explosions around the 2:05 mark, and I think perhaps, yes, this day is better already.

Download it at iTunes (and apologies to The Beatles, but where is Lynch's billboard?)
