Report: Disney May Cut Keith Richards From Pirates of the Caribbean 4 After Shocking Admission That He's Done Drugs [UPDATE]

keith richards-1.jpgFollowing some heartwarming publicity courtesy of Johnny Depp, Disney proved today that they are taking extra care to keep the fourth, probably unnecessary, sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean warm, fuzzy, and family friendly. The company is reportedly now considering cutting Keith "I-can't-believe-he's-still-alive" Richards from the film because his new memoir Life advocates drug use. Wait a second here, back up...Keith Richards did drugs?

Disney, we are talking about the same Keith Richards right? The one who joked about snorting his dad's ashes in an interview? The one who was a subject in that documentary C*cksucker Blues? The guy who wrote the song "Little T&A"? That guy isn't emblematic of Disney's values? Because I'm pretty sure all of America thought he was when you already allowed him to be cast in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Bombshell time. Not only does Keith Richards admit to doing drugs in his new memoir, but he actually advocates doing them in moderation. According to the offending passage:

"It's not only the high quality of drugs I had that I attribute my survival to. I was very meticulous about how much I took."

"I'd never put more in to get a little higher. That's where most people f*ck up on drugs."

Wow. I would have never guessed. Well, unless I listened to a Rolling Stones record, or read this 2007 interview:

The best time I've ever had on drugs was..."I can't remember. It's those nights you forget, but you know what happened because there are 15 other people telling you that you were hanging naked upside down from the chandelier. The other best bit is the morning after, when you wake up and realise you've had a great time. I mean drugs have got really nothing to do with life. Drugs are there if you want them, and it's not a big fucking deal."

Anyway, we'll see if this actually pans out - it seems pretty embarrassing for Disney to act surprised that Richards did drugs. Maybe to compensate, they will make good on the rumor of casting Mick Jagger. That guy's still squeaky clean, as far as I know.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m. EDT: A representative from Bruckheimer Films firmly called today's report 'complete and utter nonsense,' telling Movieline that Richards has not been -- and will not be -- cut from the film.

And Disney execs are all squeaky clean, no doubt about it. To pull a Schwarzenegger quote (one of many), "C'mahhhn, don't bullshit me."

  • Will the kids who see it even know who the hell Keith Richards is? And will their parents be at all shocked -- SHOCKED, I tell you -- that that shambling corpse was embalmed not by bandages and ancient Egyptian spells but by drugs and alcohol?

  • I think Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio were taking drugs when they wrote "At World's End"! And I needed to be on drugs just to understand what was going on!
But seriously, this seems like a planted story that covers up the real reason Richards is booted off the film. And this fake story is clever - it boosts Keith Richards brand as a drug toking rock star, and reinforces Disney's image as a family friendly media company.

  • The Winchester says:

But watching these movies on drugs is the only way I can tolerate them.

  • Billie Briggs says:

You have got to be kidding. Disney is rediculous Mr. Depp based Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards. Who do they think they are????

  • Jing Fow says:

LOL, somehow I dont think he really cares.

  • kevin says:

    I`m speechless I think?

  • action says:

Are they cool with him snorting a line of his dads ashes? Watched an interview with him over the weekend where they asked him about that and damned if he didn't confirm it. Just about the creepiest thing ever.

  • ninformant says:

i'm in total agreement with keith. drug abusers make the users look bad. they take it too far, but thats ok. we need people to take things to the next level to set the boundaries for the rest of us.

  • happygolucky says:

Disney's "complete and utter nonsense" response is the smartest thing those folks have ever said.

  • huygg says:

What??? Keith Richards does drugs?!?! Disney must have been as surprised as I was to learn of this! Somebody print this in the paper, quick! Extra! Extra! Keith Richards does drugs!

  • scott kempfert says:

  • Sherry Clark says:

Jonny Depp is great but just not in to that type movie until I found out Keith was appearring.might be smart to put his name on front of DVD because almost didn't buy not seeing his name on front cover.checked with internet to confirm then I payed up

  • Sherry Clark says:

PS. Please tell me Who in that movie has not done drugs???????????? I do not do drugs I am a born again Christian and would love nothing more than for Keith Richards.Johnny Depp, Mick Jagger and all the other extremely talented people in show business to get saved and end up in heaven with me but they are the ones that will make that choice. I do know 1 thing,ELVIS IS THERE!
