Get Your Swedish Mohawked-Hacker Fix With Trailer for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest

Besides Noomi Rapace's bold hairdo, the trailer for the final installment in this series about computers, sex crimes, and Swedish law doesn't offer much excitement. Really, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest trailer seems tailored for fans of the series only, with little to pique the curiosity of an outsider. But who knows, maybe there are so many fans now that it can afford to go this route.

Granted, it's possible that if I had read these books and seen the movies, my heart would be racing right now. But I haven't (I'm sorry!), and I stand by my assessment that this trailer should be better. Remember that amazing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer that probably made the two or three people who had ignored the series completely second-guess their decision? It's not happening here.

Rather then hints at any sort of plot, the narrator just emphasizes the popularity of the series ("Full-blown literary and movie phenomenon!") and the importance of this "unmissable" final chapter. The preview also relies heavily on voice-over and dramatic music to compensate for the fact that, with a few exceptions, the images from the actual film aren't too interesting. It's mostly full of driving, running, foreboding expressions and computer maps and then as the music reaches crescendo, we see Lisbeth...climbing a ladder! Come on.

Verdict: Stieg Larsson devotees have at it! But I'll pass.
