Barack Obama Endorses Jon Stewart's 'Rally to Restore Sanity'

jonstewart_225.jpgHigh profile endorsements don't get much higher in profile than this. At small-town gathering yesterday, President Barack Obama singled out The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and his upcoming, Glenn Beck-ian "Rally to Restore Sanity" in Washington, DC on Oct. 30. You'll excuse the president for not getting the name right, however. The dude has plenty on his mind.

Speaking to a living room full of slack-jawed faces (seriously; check out that kid in the navy polo shirt in the video below), Obama commented on the polarizing effect both sides of the media have on our nation, before singling out Stewart.

"I was amused -- Jon Stewart, you know, the host of The Daily Show, apparently he's going to host a rally called something like 'Americans in Favor of a Return to Sanity,' or something like that. And his point was 70 percent of the people - it doesn't matter what political affiliation -- 70 percent of folks are just like you. They go about their business. They work hard every day. They're looking after their families. They don't go around calling people names. They don't make stuff up."

Does this mean Obama plans to attend and "actively not throwing our feces at Tila Tequila"? Fingers crossed. Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert is still holding out hope that John Boehner endorses his "March to Keep Fear Alive" event on the same day.

Sure, he may endorse it, but he won't be able to pass it through the House and Senate.

  • Silencer says:

Obama, and those who support him, such as Bush-haters, are stupid.
It's hard to criticize 'constructively' here. "I want my Obama money, from his stash..." Ya. November 2 is coming soon.
Jon Stewart? He himself says he's 'only' a comedian. I guess Obama missed that.

  • R. G. Mack says:

The only way sanity can be restored is for those 70% of the people to go vote, and send in their comments to their representatives, senators even the President. For my 65 years on this earth, that hasn't realy happened. Maybe it's time now? I sure hope so. Go get 'em Jon.

2 yrs too late and no where near forceful enough.
Get ready for a tidal wave of Tea Party idiots on election day folks.

  • Barbara says:

Chris, What a jerk you are for singling out a kid for not being photo op savvy. A fine example of media's downhill race to become wholly unprofessional.

  • john says:

Tor, most sane american's would agree that you are the idiot. The Tea Party speaks for the Silent Majority. No, John Stewart, you do not speak for the silent majority, you speak for the Vocal Left Wing. Fair and Balanced, you will never be.

  • Christopher Rosen says:

Yes, how could he possibly expect to be on camera when the President of the United States is talking to him?

it's true. How many celebs, people in the media or even regular people do and say things just to get attention. Acting out via television, internet or even facebook has clearly defined many americans as whiney self indulgent wastes looking to get 15 minutes of fame. jersey shore, lady gaga, katy perry, glen beck. shock value. the internet and mass stream media has given every person who shouldnt have a voice what we all don't want to hear.
regardless of what you think you know or how opinionated you are, you're more than likely wrong and there has been many before you who are sheep and think the same way you do.
blah blah youre an idiot right wing hick, blah blah youre a leftist tree hugger. when are you morons going to realize you've been fooled into this cute little trivial feud.

  • Silencer says:

If you think we all want attention, that would mean that you are on the 'Left'. I don't want attention, I want you to quit f'ing up our country.
    I am a sheep. And you're a goat.
You say 'cute little trivial', it's not cute, or little, or trivial. I left out of my post above, that if you people don't get your heads out of your asses, people are going to die. Those of us with brains, are about finished with the left in this country.

  • CB says:

Hmmm - What if you have a rally and no one shows? I guess we'll see that on 10/30!

  • Wesley says:

I've been saying that for a while
