The I Am Number Four Trailer: Twilight With Aliens

"Number 1 was killed in Malaysia. Number 2 was murdered in England. Number 3 was hunted down in Kenya. Before they come for the others, they'll come for me. I am Number 4." Ominous! That's "John Smith" -- a.k.a. Number Four -- one of six remaining aliens from the planet Lorien, describing his plight at the beginning of the trailer for I Am Number Four. What's his course of action for survival?

Teen romance! Based on the first novel of a planned six-part series from Pittacus Lore (the nom de plume of Jobie Hughes and Oprah favorite James Frey), I Am Number Four is your latest heir to Twilight. Alex Pettyfer stars as the titular Four, a high school student who moves around a lot so the evil aliens don't find out where he's hiding. He's got a guardian (Timothy Olyphant, unseen) and a new love (Glee star Dianna Agron) and things would be great...except for the alien hands. And all those people trying to kill him.

The very capable D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) directed Number Four and it was co-produced by Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg, so at least you know it'll succeed in providing some action. But will audiences want to watch a Twilight knock-off without vampires? If Pettygrew or anyone else takes their shirt off, probably.

VERDICT: I Am Still Skeptical.
