TV Bites: Ryan Reynolds Returns to Television Without the Pizza Place

· Fans of Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place take note! Ryan Reynolds is headed back to television to produce Mayors of Casterbridge for NBC. The comedy, from writer Craig Doyle, is described as "Old School meets Gran Torino." Fun? Sure! If it goes to pilot, Reynolds is expected to make an appearance and might be recurring on the series. That is, when he isn't busy being a movie star. Pffft, TV! [Deadline]

· Sheldon Turner is on a hot streak. The Up in the Air Oscar nominee already has multiple irons in the fire -- including one drawing interest from Jeremy Renner, of course -- and he's just added another: An untitled hour-long dramedy about the vice president for ABC. Variety calls the series "the political equivalent of Glee," though considering there is no singing, teens and/or tracksuits, that seems like a shaky comparison at best. [Variety]

· MTV keeps adding series. The network has ordered 12-episodes each of the coming-of-age comedy That Girl and the horror comedy Death Valley. Don't worry: Your kids will love them. [Deadline]

· For all the teeth-gnashing from television critics on Twitter yesterday over the cancellation of My Boys, you would have thought the TBS sitcom was Friends. It wasn't, and now it's gone. The bad part? Because TBS waited so long to do the inevitable, stars Jordana Spiro and Kyle Howard wound up being replaced on the series orders for Love Bites and Perfect Couples, respectively. Bad form, TBS! [WaPo/The TV Column]

· Your aunt is excited today and now you know why. TNT renewed HawthoRNe for season three. [Deadline]

· Just who will Dr. Gregory House be mean to on this season of House? Dylan Baker, Matthew Lillard and Amy Irving have all booked guest spots on the Fox hit this year. [THR]
