I'm usually leery of great filmmakers trying to relive their golden age, just as I am about reunion tours, revivals of old TV shows and other desperate nostalgia cash-ins. But Scorsese is at the top of his box office game and anything but desperate. And his current 3-D young-adult novel adaptation shows that he's still taking chances. Maybe this is exactly what De Niro needs to wipe off the bodily fluids and get back on his A-Game.
However, before team Casino joins forces with Serpico, funding needs to fall into place and Scorsese needs to let go of his other potential projects, which include an adaptation of Shusako Endo's 17th century Japan epic Silence. In the meantime, the busy director has a great-looking television show and documentary to hold us over.
