· If you have a hard time telling Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds apart, you're not going to like this movie. The pair are attached to star in Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner's untitled action-comedy as bickering San Francisco cops who call their equally bickering fathers out of retirement to help with a case. The hopes are that the film will retain a "flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory" -- which basically means Lethal Weapon without Mel Gibson. The untitled project doesn't have a studio home yet, but THR speculates that Sony may get involved because Neal Moritz's Original Films -- which is housed at Sony -- is producing. Sounds good to me! Quick question: How long before Jack Nicholson and Chevy Chase are cast as the dads? [THR/Risky Business]
· Everyone laughed when it was revealed that Universal was spending $200 million on Battleship -- but not Warner Bros., apparently. The studio plans on producing its own oceanic battle royale with a budget of $200 million, though this time without aliens and/or supermodels. WB has bought a pitch from The Pacific's Robert McKenna for The Battle of Midway, a film based on the famous World War II military engagement. They're hoping it'll be like Saving Private Ryan -- or, y'know, The Pacific -- but with the added bonus of 3D. [Deadline]
· Check out this motley crew: Ed Asner, Carol Kane, Michael Rapaport, Mary McCormack and Kelly Osbourne have been added to the cast of Should've Been Romeo. The indie comedy is about a "self-centered, middle-aged pitchman for a potato chip company (Paul Ben-Victor) who loses his job and his livelihood just as his octogenarian grandfather, portrayed by Asner, is dropped on his doorstep unexpectedly by his mother on her way to a singles cruise." Must... move... to... next... item. Quirk... overload. [Variety]
· Joe Lo Truglio has made a career of playing "that guy!" losers and weirdos in star-packed comedies -- Superbad, Party Down, I Love You, Man -- so it seems just about right that he'd add another to his resume. The State alum has replaced Fred Armisen in the Judd Apatow-produced, David Wain-directed Wanderlust, which you know as the movie where Jennifer Aniston might get naked. [Deadline]
· This is the kind of news morning it is: 24 frames has picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the Mexican alien invasion movie Series: Genesis. Get your tickets now. [THR/Heat Vision]
