Kings of Leon is Good Enough for Gossip Girl But Not Glee

serena_kol_225.jpgYou might know Kings of Leon as the band that had to cancel a show recently because its bassist got crapped on by a pigeon. Or perhaps you know them from "Use Somebody," a bit of alterna-pop that got incessant radio play last summer. One place you won't know them from, however, is Glee, because Kings of Leon won't sell out, man. Most of the time, anyway.

Bass player Jared Followill told NME that the band denied Glee the use of its songs for an upcoming episode in season two. The band also said no to Ugly Betty (which wanted Kings of Leon to actually appear) and an "incredibly famous actor" who wanted to use a track in his next trailer. This is a band with integrity!

Except for that one time when Gossip Girl came calling. During the season two episode "Bonfire of the Vanity," three Kings of Leon songs appeared: the aforementioned "Use Somebody," "Sex on Fire" and "Closer." Of course that episode aired in 2008, long before they became moderately popular -- so it was all just a means to an end, right? Janis Joplin sang about Mercedes, so this is totally fine.

Proof of Kings of Leon's Gossip Girl appearance is sadly unembeddable, but that doesn't mean it isn't real. Head over to YouTube to hear their song "Closer" underscore a very emotional photo shoot featuring Blake Lively's Serena. Bonus: If you close your eyes real hard, you might be able to imagine that it's Cory Monteith doing the singing.

It doesn't sound like Cory Monteith at all, in fact I personally found Caleb's voice much more grating. Use Somebody is a good song, it's the KoL vocals that I have beef with. I like the covers much better.

  • Citizen Bitch says:

I agree. I cannot get into this band because of the vocals. Course they sound like douches in any event.

  • Joy says:

Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass on ''Gossip Girl'') is friends with band members. 'Nuff said.

  • Marie says:

What is this? I want to hear you sing Christopher Rosen!! No really! Please! What's your problem with this Cory dude? I had enough with the constant actors bashing in here... why can't you write stuff without bashing others work, huh? you are pathetic!

  • I'm singing right now -- so far, no complaints from neighbors. I'll keep you posted.

  • Marie says:

Please do!!! I can't wait to see you singing AND acting on Glee!!!!

  • Andrew says:

Oh em gee...why do you fanboys insist on coming here, a snarky entertainment review, and complain about the snark? Do I go to porn websites and complain about the hot naked chicks?
Well, no...because I like hot naked chicks...but still...

  • To Christopher Rosen says:

Go out and kick puppy dogs while you're at it please. Enough is enough.
Cory may be less experienced in the singing but he is a wonderful actor. I'm not saying this because I have the hots for him, I do, but that's beside the point. He doesn't deserve this shit heaped on him on every godda** Glee posted on this pathetic site.

Always found their music a little boring. Then I was dragged to see them live once and they were pretty awful (even without the crapping birds).
As a "Glee" fan... personally I enjoy your random Cory Montieth snark, it always manages to amuse me. I feel a little let down when I read a "Glee" post here than is Monteith snark-free.
