And so here's the movie: Virgin nerd wants to have sex with his girlfriend, he gets convinced by his rude and portly friend that they should film it, plans go awry, nerd loses girlfriend, nerd tries to win her back, nerd falls in love with another girl. There's also some embarrassing sex stuff with an online lover (the nerd has to go down on a blow-up doll), some embarrassing hygiene stuff (the nerd gets his pubic hair shaved; pictured) and some just plain embarrassing stuff. Like: Why would Ferrell and McKay use their Gary Sanchez Productions shingle to release something that looks like The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It? Seriously, close your eyes and try to tell me the fat kid doesn't sound exactly like Jonah Hill.
Of course it's just the extended trailer -- but considering how many beats are given away, an unappealing verdict seems more than allowable. On the plus side, it's nice to see Ida Maria's "Oh My God" getting so much "indie" trailer play. Between The Virginity Hit and It's Kind of a Funny Story, she can expect a nice bump in iTunes sales.
VERDICT: Pass.
