TCA: How the Mike and Molly Panel Got Uncomfortable Real Fast

CBS's new comedy Mike and Molly isn't about weight, showrunner Chuck Lorre insisted several times throughout its TCA panel today. The previews may show Molly (Gilmore Girls alum Melissa McCarthy) on a treadmill cracking jokes like, "What do you think I'm doing right now, churning butter?" but according to Lorre, the show is about relationships. Still, that didn't stop journalists from asking a number of cringe-inducing weight questions.

Though the press wouldn't let up with its rather cynical line of questioning -- including an actual query about whether the show's stars want to lose weight -- star Billy Gardell summed the show up in three light-hearted responses:

3. "I mean, I don't know. We're fat, the show's funny. I don't know what else to say about that."

2. "My wife's little... and my cholesterol is better than hers. Of course I'd like to lose some weight. Everybody wants to be a little bit better than they are, but everybody has a different kick, man. Mine just happens to be pizza. It's OK, you can laugh at that. I've caught a mirror. Lighten up."

1. "I broke a chair before coming out here. It's funny."

But hey! The show still looks cute, so there's that.
