Tina Fey on Mean Girls 2: 'I Should Have Done It!'

After sharing the stage with a blue-headed Will Ferrell for the Megamind panel, I got the chance to grill Tina Fey about Mean Girls 2, the direct-to-DVD sequel to the Fey-written 2006 film. With all-new characters and no involvement from original star Lindsay Lohan, producer Lorne Michaels, or Fey herself, what's her take on the project?

"It's funny, because now it's shooting and I don't really have anything to do with it," Fey said. "Like, I haven't read it or anything like that."

After the success of the first film, Paramount approached Fey and Michaels for a sequel -- then, despite Fey's reluctance to commit, kept reapproaching them.

"Paramount was very generous and solicitous with me for several years, saying, 'Would you like to do it?' And at the time, I was like, 'They should just let it be what it is!'"

Eventually, the studio moved on, setting up the project with director Melanie Mayron and developing a whole new story of two girls going up against their school's popular crowd, "The Plastics." Does Fey have any second thoughts about passing on the film? Some, she told Movieline.

"Now, its like, why not just do it?" she sighed. "I should have done it, because now it's happening anyway!"
