Written and directed by veteran television producer John Wells, The Company Men features an all-star cast -- Affleck, Chris Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Costner -- dealing with the ramifications of being downsized in a crappy economy. Affleck and Cooper get laid off; Jones, still employed, tries to make things right from his corporate perch; and Costner (with a Julianne Mooreian Boston accent), builds houses and teaches Affleck that money isn't everything. There's redemption, heartbreak, acceptance, family bonding and good ol' fashioned American sticktoitiveness. Wallow in an emotional score and enjoy.
It looks good -- and was Movieline-approved when it screened at Sundance as better than Up in the Air -- but why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? In this economy, every penny counts.
VERDICT: Already purchased.
