A Note to Our Commenters

Hey there, commenters! You're looking particularly lovely today -- is that shirt new? Now that we've reached the end of our redesign week, I'm going to crack open a Diet Coke and give you a few tidbits and tips about what's to come...

So usually at the end of the week, we select five commenters whose wit or intellect we found particularly stimulating, and we enshrine them as our Commenters of the Week. It's a tough job to narrow it down to five -- you guys all do such a good job, and we love to read your feedback -- so with the new redesign, one of our first priorities was to come up with a more significant, frequent way to reward commenters.

And so, the "Comment of the Moment" was born! You may have seen it on the homepage or read about it in Stu's redesign FAQ, but the Comment of the Moment is a prime place of homepage real estate where he can feature several of the best comments every day. More readers get rewarded, and the reward is much better. The lucky chosen will also get a gold box around their comment in the post itself, which is very "ooh ahh."

What else does a commenter need to know in this day and age? How about how to sign in and get a nifty little avatar next to your name?

If you're new to the site, or if you've just never bothered to register, your commenting screen at the bottom of each post should look like this:

Sure, you can comment from there without registering, but where's the fun? You want to upload a hand-picked Nomi Malone avatar to run next to all your comments, don't you? I know you do, so choose to sign in and register yourself. On your profile page, you'll get to add a userpic:

And then you can log in and see this sort of screen when commenting, which means your avatar ought to show up:

If you've been signed in all this time but don't have an avatar, just check out that third screenshot, click on your underlined username, and then you'll be taken to your profile, where you can upload one.

No, seriously. Where'd you get that shirt? H&M?
