Downey Jr. stars as a man who must get across the country to witness the birth of his first child, a task that would be much easier were it not for Galifianakis in a part that feels like the continuation of his breakout role in The Hangover -- except without any major laughs. Predictably, problems arise and this mismatched twosome must find a way to put aside their differences before a mad dash to the hospital in the third act. Game, set, match.
So it's basically Planes, Trains and Automobiles '10, and that's OK -- it's not like The Hangover was some mind-bending exercise in originality either. Still, that film had one of the funniest trailers ever, while Due Date's kinda just sits there. You'll likely smirk at some of the bickering between Downey Jr. and Galifianakis, but it's hard to imagine anyone who saw The Hangover multiple times telling their friends how pumped they are to see this. Hope for better things when Warner Bros. reworks this trailer in a couple of months -- Due Date doesn't hit theaters until November, so they have some time.
VERDICT: Pass.
