Is Mark Ruffalo About to Become The Hulk in The Avengers?

Maybe you won't have to wait until Comic-Con to find out who's going to replace Edward Norton in The Avengers. According to Deadline, Marvel is in "late stage talks" with -- wait for it -- Mark Ruffalo! Because if there is one audience that has been woefully under-marketed to when it comes to comic book movies, it's indie film lovers.

If Ruffalo signs on the dotted line -- something that would likely be a coup for his new agency United Talent, even with Marvel's notorious tight pockets -- he'll join Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johannson, Chris Hemsworth and possibly Jeremy Renner in the cast of Joss Whedon's film. But regardless of what happens here, it's clear that Marvel has a specific "type" in mind for Bruce Banner (see also: Eric Bana, Norton). If the Ruffalo deal falls through, Jon Hamm should expect a phone call.
