"Man, these hot dogs are great."
"Thanks! I also appreciate you bringing potato salad, it's delicious."
"Radical. It sure is hot out."
"Yeah, it is."
"I wonder what's going on with Roman Polanski right now."
[Awkward silence]
Thankfully now there's news.
After his own protracted silence, Swiss Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli told the Associated Press, "It won't be long" before the ministry rules on the United States' request to extradite the 76-year-old director back to Los Angeles. The Oscar winner is awaited there for formal sentencing in his 32-year-old statutory-rape case; he's been under house arrest in his Gstaad chalet since December.
The bad news: Galli offered no further specifics, and in any case, Polanski can appeal an unfavorable (to him) ruling. So. Looks like you'll be having the same conversation next Independence Day as well.
