Late Night Highlights: Stephen Colbert's Hitler Joke and Puppets in Politics

While most of the late night hosts took off Monday to recover from their Fourth of July BBQ hangovers, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert both taped new shows. As you've already read, Stewart's contained a few homophobic sentiments courtesy of Denis Leary, but it also contained a satellite interview with a Henson muppet. Meanwhile over at the Colbert Report, the host stayed in pajamas during the show on account of sickness. Click through for the highlights you missed from those new programs as well as the best of last night's repeats.

5. The Baldwin Secret to Longevity

During a repeat of the Late Show last night, Alec Baldwin told David Letterman about his mother's recommendations for living well past 80 and her "fame whore"-ness. (Fast forward to 2:29)

4. Thanks for the Memories, ABC

Jimmy Kimmel Live! chose to repeat its episode featuring Party Down star Lizzy Caplan last night in spite of Starz's recent cancellation of the series. Sadly, Caplan even seemed to know her days with Party Down were limited to double digits when this episode was taped, as the actress discussed the show's low, low, low ratings at length.

3. Denis Leary on... Gay Fashion

Want to see how the Rescue Me star tones down his act when he is not on The Daily Show? Then you are in luck because NBC revisited an episode featuring Jay's conversation with Leary last night. Capri pants were discussed.

2. Puppets in Politics

Before letting Denis Leary use homophobic slurs during his interview segment, Jon Stewart invited GOP chairman Michael Steele (or a blue interpretation of him) to defend his recent comments about Afghanistan on the Daily Show last night.

1. Under the Weather with Stephen Colbert

Even though the Colbert Report host was not feeling well, he still managed to muster enough energy to host a new episode while reclining in a leather chair and bunny slippers. In the following pre-recorded segment, Colbert shared Hitler jokes with Electronic Frontier Foundation rep Cindy Cohn.
