Screenwriter Larry Doyle: 'Danny DeVito is a World-Class D**k"

Remember a little while ago, when there was a fun little boomlet of screenwriters biting the hands that fed them? Well now, writer Larry Doyle wants in on that path paved by Dan Harmon (who called his Monster House director a "hack" and Steven Spielberg a "moron") and J.D. Shapiro (who blamed Battlefield Earth on his nutty Scientologist producers). You may already know Doyle as a former staffer for The Simpsons or as the writer of I Love You, Beth Cooper, but now you'll know him as the guy who tore Danny DeVito a new one.

In an interview with Asylum's Anthony Layser, Doyle talked about writing Duplex, a Ben Stiller/Drew Barrymore comedy that DeVito directed -- poorly, says the scribe:

"It was fun up until Danny Devito was hired to direct it. As far as I can tell -- and I'm not sure about the legal basis for saying this -- but as far as I can tell, Danny Devito is a world-class d**k. Just like an incredible a**hole, at least when he's a director. I believe that's not even at the level of gossip. I think that's a fairly well-established fact. I think he's a fairly sweet guy as an actor and in person, but...

"I was not privileged to actually be on the set of the movie, because I was invited to the movie by Ben Stiller's producer and then later in the day, disinvited by Danny Devito's producer. He called to say that I would not be welcome."

Danny DeVito, he does not love your work. Here's the video:
