Hollywood Ink: Kevin Spacey Latest Horrible Boss

KevinSpacey225.jpg· Since I already used the "Slowest News Day of 2010 Headline" barely a month ago, consider this the second slowest news day of 2010. And then thank Kevin Spacey for daring to enliven it by agreeing to star as one of the title characters in Horrible Bosses, the Seth Gordon employer-icide comedy also featuring Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. Shooting gets underway next month. [Deadline]

I can't think of any real reason to read on, unless Iron Man 2's unusual domestic underachievement and/or Dino De Laurentis's latest pulpy interests matter to you in the slightest.

· Listen, no one around here is calling Iron Man 2 a flop or anything, but this observation is interesting: The Marvel sequel dropped out of the top 10 over the weekend with a cumulative $307 million in eight weeks -- a week earlier than its predecessor dropped out with $309 million in 2008. That suggests an unexpected scenario in which IM2 grosses less in America than the first film. But: It's doing better overseas that the first Iron Man, so don't cry for it just yet. [LAT]

· Dino De Laurentiis grabbed the rights to novelist James Rollins' Sigma Force series, about a secret group of elite government scientists involved in securing dangerous information through "counterterrorism, research and covert ops." Basically The Da Vinci Code with lab coats. [THR]

· New Line's upcoming Drew Barrymore/Justin Long romcom Going the Distance was based on the relationship of an actual New Line exec, and the last half of the script was written over a weekend during a bender of "beer, coffee and Subway sandwiches." Anticipate accordingly. [Variety]

  • The Winchester says:

    Only $308 million dollars.
I love that I work in a business that considers this failure.

  • No one called it a failure! In fact there's that whole caveat about "not a flop or anything"... it's just an unusual, unforeseen, and probably not wholly encouraging development for Marvel, especially when it's yr top-grossing franchise and it's already showing potentially diminishing returns. That's all. But again: Not a flop, not a failure.

  • stolidog says:

So, Going the Distance is a romcom about farting?

  • Pamela Strangeways says:

I think Smegma Force will be a fine film, as long as Megan Fox plays a biophysicist with self-esteem issues desperately searching for a cure for her twin sister's (who happens to be the President of the United States)terminal herpes.

  • Can't wait to see this one.
