Shankman told the story this week at the LA Film Festival's "Power of the Tweet Poolside Chat," where he and other tweet-addicts like Richard Kelly, Eli Roth, and Jon Chu talked about the potential and pitfalls of the social networking service. One of those pitfalls? The time that Shankman posted a picture with Cyrus from the set of The Last Song, which he produced. Standing near a gay man with the whites of your eyes exposed is obviously licentious, and in response, Disney has had asked its employees to sign a contract promising that they will not tweet from set, a stipulation that the director hopes will be called "The Shankman Clause."
Lest you think that Twitter has become too powerful, then, along came Roth to take the air out of its sails. "I saw Ashton Kutcher's eulogy to Brittany Murphy on Twitter, and I was like, 'Oh my god, he really did that,'" Roth said. "I love Ashton, but when someone's trying to do something really profound on Twitter, I'm like, 'Go f**k yourself."
