Hollywood Ink: Dr. Strange Latest Attempt to Make You Care Passionately About Marvel Films

· Disney has reportedly hired a pair of writers to adapt Marvel's Dr. Strange as a feature, sparking the instant rumor that the character will be the first of the Marvel Universe to get a prospective franchise in its new studio home. Which is kind of hilarious, since it was, like, yesterday, that Disney was apparently exploring short films based on these characters. Will the agents/publicists spinning this crap on us please either iron out -- or space -- out their stories? Thanks. [Deadline]

· Kristen Bell is in negotiations to star alongside Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski in Whales, the true story of a 1988-era Greenpeace envoy and a reporter who manage to thaw the Cold War long enough to save some whales trapped below ice. Bell will play a vain rival reporter. [THR]

· Toy Story 3 drew 60 percent of its opening gross from 3D screens, compared to the 71 percent that made up Alice in Wonderland's opening. There can be only one interpretation: 3D is over! [Variety]
