Former Late Night Announcer Joel Godard Not on Team Coco

Despite the looks of that picture, you aren't high right now. Probably. British comedian and self-described "entrepreneur" Matt Sky -- who interviews various celebrities using a green puppet -- spoke with Conan O'Brien's former Late Night announcer Joel Godard to find out why he never appeared on The Tonight Show. Because who else would Joel Godard speak to about this?

In the interview -- though I do have a hard time calling it that since it was conducted with a puppet -- Godard offers that Conan forced him out because "they wanted someone who was stronger on improv. ... They wanted Andy as announcer and sidekick." Fair enough, but that doesn't mean Godard doesn't hold a bit of a grudge for being left "on the curb":

"I could have been a sidekick. ... They said that the network didn't want to pay for both of us -- I think that's what they said. If Conan had really wanted me, he would have said 'Look, I want him.' Conan was the golden boy, the million dollar baby. If he said 'By God, I want Joel Godard, I need to have him,' I think they would have done that. And I think they should have."

Of Andy Richter's performance, Godard says that The Tonight Show "misused" Andy and that announcing wasn't his "strong point." Burn! Don't hold your breath waiting to see Godard make an appearance on Conan's new TBS show.
