The Tangled Trailer: Pull Your Hair Out

Did you watch How to Train Your Dragon and think, "Gee, if only Disney had made this film, but without dragons and charm"? Then say hello to Rapunzel Tangled, the next non-Pixar film from Disney that will probably disappoint and lead to Cars 4 or Toy Story 7. Wait, it's in 3D? Oh, never mind -- this thing is going to make a boatload.

Tangled is the story of Rapunzel -- and why it isn't called Rapunzel is a matter for another day -- so you know the nuts and bolts. But to recap: Locked in a tower since birth, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) has hair as long as a football field. Only when ne'er-do-well Flynn Rider (voiced by Chuck star Zachary Levi) arrives does the blonde heroine get a chance to go on the run and experience life. Hair-raising chaos ensues.

Where the trailer for Tangled drops the ball though is in the execution. As the hero, Levi affects this really mannered ACTING tone to his voice that's distracting in two minutes -- lord knows what it would be like for 90. And while it is animated, the scenes of tower merriment -- when Rapunzel's hair is acting like one of Dr. Octopus's robot arms from Spider-Man 2 -- feel increasingly dumb. And don't even get me started on the frog, the laughing horse or the P!nk music cue.

VERDICT: Pass.
