CW Hires Maggie Q as an Assassin; Kills Off Amy Sherman-Palladino Project

Just when you thought that you couldn't possibly get any other pickup information on this beautiful upfront Tuesday, the CW has announced its own female-friendly additions, which feature one actress who kicks ass and another who performs kick twist basket tosses. Meanwhile, the network is quietly dropping a project that could have given Gilmore Girls fans new reason to hang on.

Congratulations to the two CW pick-ups today: Nikita and Hellcats. Nikita stars Maggie Q as a "a spy and assassin for a top secret U.S. government agency, who rebels against the system that created her and will stop at nothing to bring their powerful operation to an end." Charlie's Angels director McG is an executive producer on the project. Meanwhile, Hellcats stars Aly Michalka (Bandslam) as a pre-law student "whose world is turned upside-down when she loses her scholarship and has to join the college's competitive cheerleading squad." Ashley Tisdale and Gail O'Grady co-star.

Meanwhile, the CW gave new seasons to both of its bubble series, One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected. Sad news, though, for all honorary Stars Hollow residents: the Wyoming-set drama pilot from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is dead.
