Shia LaBeouf Pretty Much Agrees Transformers 2 Was Crap

As you might have figured, Shia LaBeouf is in Cannes promoting Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. As you might not have figured, the young star is spending some of that time confirming he's on the same page as the rest of the world when it comes to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. To wit: Yup, it sucked. But! At least he expects the third installment to redeem it.

"When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," LaBeouf told the AP from the Croisette. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone." Heresy! What about Skids and Mudflap? Stoned, shrill Julie White? If that's not heart, what is? To hear the actor tell it, "human consequences":

On the second movie, "we got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger," LaBeouf said. "Mike [Bay] went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. ... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

With Transformers 3, the toll of the robot war will be grave for our planet, LaBeouf said.

"There's going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they're targeting humans," LaBeouf said. "It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed."

I think we all know what that means: Don't get too comfortable, Megan Fox.

Ah yes, Shia, sequels subsequent to terrible sequels are always better, especially with "lots of human death." Right track!

"Then it’s just a bunch of robots fighting each other."
    God forbid!
The only way I made it through the first one was the promise of "just a bunch of robots fighting each other." A promise it failed to deliver on while punishing me with endless cutsey-pie masturbation jokes and chemistry-less romance. Is that the relationships he's talking about?
Because, you know, when I go to see a movie based on a franchise about giant robots who beat the shit out of each other, I really care about the human beings.

Shia is completely right. The first movie, even though it had the lame moments and crude jokes, was a good movie. You cared about the robots and you were actually into the story, regardless of the flaws. The sequel didn't have the feeling that the first one did. It felt rushed and was extremely overdone. They adding things that should not have been added, they put things in it that they could have saved for another installment. They just focused on making the fights longer and bigger. It only made it worse. The first movie is worthy of at least three stars out of four. Revenge of the fallen on the other hand, is only worthy of 1 1/2 to two stars. and that's being generous. The third film could only get better.

You lost me at Shia Labeouf. Mmmm.
Anyway, who cares about Transformers. He should be more invested in the reviews for Wall Street 2 as this is the movie that will determine if he's Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford.

I guarantee that most people who go to see a Transformers movie are going to see giant robots beat the shit out of each other, not relationships.

  • casting couch says:

There was heart in the first movie; it just wasn't beating.

    Dumb & Dumber.
    Charlie's Angels.
    Transformers.
    Indiana Jones.
    Wall Street.
Hey Shia, when it comes to shitty sequels, you're the common denominator here.

I disagree. Transformers 1 was crap. All it had was retarded jokes, and unsatisfying fight scenes. In fact I believe the humans did more fighting than the transfomers, which is sad. Also I still yet today find it funny that the obviously black robot (Jazz) is the only one that died by the hands of megatron, due to the neglect of help from his allies. Transformers 2 was way better because it had what people want to see, the transformers FIGHTING! Not to mention in a clear manner as well! I actually own the first transformers and can barely yet still catch everything that is going on when it comes to the robots going at it. Die hard fans dont care about what is going on with the humans, in fact they are only there for atmosphere, nothing more. People pay to see transformers to see just that, the transformers. Ergo the name, Shia. I was excited about this film, but I have to say I am very unimpressed with the direction Bay is allowing it to take. If I wanted to see humans struggle I'll get my girl and watch a chick flick or something, wouldnt surprise me if they were better. No I think Im going to play it safe and just wait for this one to come out on cable.
