Tonight in NYC: Join Movieline for a Chat With Two of the Brassiest Directors Alive

Dear reader: Got plans this evening? If you're in New York, then now you do: Join me at the Apple Store SoHo, where I'll be sitting down for a chat with the fearless filmmaking brothers Logan and Noah Miller. They'll be in town for a glimpse at their debut film Touching Home and its companion book Either You're In or You're in the Way, a double-barreled example of how even the greenest Hollywood outsiders can get a feature film made in 2010. All you have to do is ambush a four-time Oscar nominee.

You can't really overstate these guys' brass, starting with their ambition to make a movie in honor of their late father -- and then buttonholing Ed Harris after a film festival event to show him their trailer and hand off their script. That was the easy part. Needless to say it worked, and they'll be on hand tonight for you to buttonhole and glean the tips, hints, and most importantly the attitude required for truly independent filmmaking in 2010. And even the most casual of filmgoers without the slightest of directing ambition will enjoy hearing about Brad Dourif's hi-def TV addiction and other behind-the-scenes nuggets from the Millers' adventure.

And it's free! So! Check it out starting at 6 p.m. at the Apple Store SoHo (103 Prince Street, 212-226-3126). There will be a book signing afterward and possibly Movieline logo face painting if you ask me nicely. Hope to see you there!
