Frustrated Russell Crowe Dresses Down to Promote $237 Million (!) Robin Hood

Between volcanic ash clouds and towering waves, the Cannes Film Festival this year has endured a succession of setbacks to its unparalleled glamour and beauty. And now this: Russell Crowe has taken to Twitter to shatter yet another Hollywood illusion as he prepares to promote his opening-night film Robin Hood. Speaking of which: Did you hear how much that movie cost?

Sharon Waxman claims to have acquired a final budget breakdown for the ailing Universal's first big summer tentpole, which totals nearly $237 million. And there aren't even any transforming robots or levitating rocks! According to the numbers here, screenwriter Brian Helgeland (and Uni's re-write army) made more up-front than Brian Grazer, and Ridley Scott pulled down $13 million to throw it all together. And there were nearly $6 million worth of horses. Six million dollars in horses! Meanwhile, I think I made around $19 after taxes for this post. Forget it. Time to get fitted for a saddle.
