What's On: The Eternal Rose of Nylund

At age 88, Betty White is finally ready for her Saturday Night Live debut. But can she hold her own against formidable vixens from SNL's past? Quoth her long-missed husband Allen Ludden, "The password is duh." Still, the Happy Homemaker has to pull out the top-shelf sass if she's going to survive against some of these broads.

Friday Night Lights [ABC, Friday 8 PM]

The cultiest cult hit on network TV (Nice try, Chuck: Ooh, faced!) opens its fourth season as Eric drums up a new football team, the East Dillon Lions. Tami, meanwhile, is forced to deal with the new environment over at West Dillon. This show can actually make you care about football, so don't devote DVR space to that Real Housewives of New Jersey: Watch What Happens Reunion Special rerun if you haven't given FNL a fair chance yet.

Medium [CBS, Friday 9 PM]

Allison's elder daughter Ariel is stuck in a time crunch -- that is, she's jumping back and forth in time, deleting years from her life, and attempting to guide herself back to the present with the aid of a future version of herself. Climactic question: Can Allison have premonitions faster than 88 MPH? Will her mind incinerate Einstein?

Saturday Night Live [NBC, Saturday 11:30]

Facebook users started up the charge, and now it's an offline reality: Betty White hosts SNL this weekend as plenty of former female cast members return for a Mother's Day show. This means Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, new Glee regular Molly Shannon, and Rachel Dratch are all slated for appearances. Or Kristen Wiig will just play them as shrill mouthbreathers. You never know.

Road House [CMT, Friday 8 PM]

I'm annoyed that I even have to qualify this film as the best Patrick Swayze outing ever. Just listen to TV Guide's description: "Patrick Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up a bar." Scintillating indeed, you jag. You may recall the classic cinematic quotes "That gal's got entirely too many brains to have an ass like that" or "Calling me sir is like putting an elevator in an outhouse. It don't belong." And if you don't, now is a fantastic day to be educated.
