Heroic Dentist Offers Crystal Bowersox the Free Teeth-Fixing She Deserves

A lot of pressure comes with being the front-runner on American Idol, from having to perform in front of tens of millions of TV viewers every week to keeping your lead despite the banalities of the Shania Twain songbook. But one observer would like to point out perhaps the most serious challenge faced by this year's presumptive winner Crystal Bowersox: Her teeth.

Or rather: The media-readiness of her teeth. Bowersox's imperfect grill has been something of a going concern this season among a certain Idol subculture, second perhaps only to the quality of her hairstyle. But NYC celebrity dentist Laura Torrado hopes to correct this as soon as possible with a free reconstructive effort on the singer's behalf, because according to an open letter sent Movieline's way this afternoon, she can't be a real star without it.

Despite your amazing talent, I've noticed that the media has been criticizing your teeth. A smile is the first thing that people notice, and it's unfortunate that for some people your smile has been distracting them from your voice. You are now in front of national and international audience, and I'd really like to offer my help if you're willing. As a leading cosmetic dentist in Manhattan, New York, I work with many celebrities and help then get the smiles they've always wanted -- especially since the paparazzi are on them 24/7. I'd be happy to do the same for you.

I'd like to offer you complimentary oral reconstructive services and do anything and everything from whitening you teeth, to closing your gaps. We don't have to make your teeth perfect like every other Hollywood celebrity, because that's not who you are. I'm happy to work with you to meet your needs, and do as little or as much as you like. We can really make sure that everyone sees you as beautiful and confident on the outside as we all know you are on the inside.

I really have nothing to add to this, except maybe that this is only free because the horrible "you're ugly" kicker won't sell a damn thing. Anyway, Crystal, offer stands.

    That doc's a real charmer.

  • The Winchester says:

Don't do it, little girl. Jewel said no, too, and look how great she did.

  • Breakfree says:

"Heroic" Dentist? It shouldn't cost so freakin much to fix teeth anyway.

  • casting couch says:

If a snaggletooth like Kirsten Dunst can make it, why does this girl need America's obsession with perfect teeth?

  • J. May says:

She's beautiful just the way she is.

  • Natalie says:

As much as I love a nice set of choppers, I would and will buy her CDs regardless of her teeth. 😀

I believe the author of the article earns the fame for saying:
"I really have nothing to add to this, except maybe that this is only free because the horrible “you’re ugly” kicker won’t sell a damn thing. Anyway, Crystal, offer stands."
He/she did not quote or indent it to indicate the dentist said it.
The other flaw in this article is calling this dentist a "hero." It was a kind offer and very generous -However, from what I recall, there are a number of more deserving people in New York that earned and deserve that title.

  • Mary says:

I didn't even think about Crystal's teeth until you all started talking about it! America's obsession with perfection will bring about its own undoing. I agree: I'll buy her music because she's awesome, maybe even moreso because she doesn't succumb to superficiality.

  • JoJo says:

I have diabetes (am disabled) and dental issues of my own. Have been trying to find a dentist to help since I can't afford it....no takers. What a generous offer, although the offer wasn't exactly tactful. 🙂

  • Lucy says:

Slightly crooked or slightly yellow teeth are one thing, but if I were missing two front teeth as she is, I'd get them fixed even if I had to pay it off for the rest of my life. With modern dentistry there's no reason to sport the meth addict/hillbilly look.

Crystal; I dont know what went on in the minds of those that voted for Lee to be the "American Idol", but girl, there is no doubt, you outsang everyone.
On the night the winner was announced, you should have been named, not lee. You nailed it all.
Stay like you are, and go for the GOLD.

  • Betty St. John says:

Crystal me and alot of other people were shocked when they announced Lee as the winner. Love your voice love your style and love you, you are truthful and up front. I think you're beautiful inside and out. Looking forward to buying your CD, you will hit it big I have faith in you. Besides you look like my granddaughter she's 24 w/ blue eyes also. But thats not why I like you. Lots of luck to you.
