Bill Murray Craps on Ghostbusters 3 Once Again

Bill Murray has been so publicly dismissive about the mere possibility of Ghostbusters 3 -- remember when he called it his "nightmare?" -- that it's hard to believe he hasn't just burned his old costume in effigy at this point. In fact, based on his latest round of "let me cut this project off at the knees" quotes, it feels like the best way for Murray to get whatever revenge he's looking for would be to simply appear in the sequel, cash his big check and put in as much effort as he did on Charlie's Angels.

Speaking at a press junket for his new film Get Low, which is appearing at the Tribeca Film Festival this week, Murray said that the Ghostbusters sequel was "a myth ... It's like the white alligator in the sewer, you know? Who's seen it, really?"

And that wasn't all:

"It's just really the movie studio. They love the franchise, they'd just like to re-create it again. All this talk is just talk. It drives me nuts, it's just people talking ... Until someone actually creates a great script it's just hogwash, it doesn't mean anything. It's interesting that people are interested in it, they'd like to see it. It was a great thing, it really was fun. Maybe it should. And if it's such a good idea, then someone will write the screenplay."

But wait, didn't Year One writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupinsky already turn in a script? "These guys that were supposedly the writers that were going to do it," Murray added, "they wrote a film that came out and people saw the film and went, 'We're not going to do it after all, are we?' So it's just a kind of a dreamy thing."

Confusing. Also, is that reference to Year One negative or positive in connotation? Ever the prankster, Murray went on to say that Ghostbusters 3 would potentially be "fun to do," so basically everything is status quo. Expect Ghostbusters 3 to hit theaters with Moneyball and the Arrested Development movie sometime around never.
