Controversial Shrek Fashion Shoot Replaces Dated Pop Culture References with Naked Models

So this happened! Perhaps you've heard of the magazine VMan, an arty, marketed-to-men version of the fashion bible V? As far as avant-garde American periodicals go, it's a good one -- or at least it used to be, when it would give up dozens of pages to James Franco and his collaborator Carter to use as an art project. Lately, VMan has been trending in a weird direction (a signed Nick Jonas cover, really?) and it's all come to a head with this bizarre Shrek Forever After photoshoot.

Apparently, Paramount and DreamWorks thought that by lending the Shrek characters to VMan, they'd get a classy fashion spread akin to what Harper's did for The Simpsons Movie in 2007. One key difference: Harper's is kind of an inoffensive women's magazine, whereas I just picked up a random issue of VMan on my coffee table, opened it, and saw vagina (OK, now I'm awake!).

"While we do respect Vman's creative vision, the shoot did not turn out the way originally envisioned when the idea was first presented by the magazine," a Paramount spokesperson said. "In hindsight, we would have declined to include the Shrek characters in such a magazine spread."

Yeah, that doesn't really capture the spirit of the Shrek franchise, does it? The models really should have been doing Matrix moves in front of an American Idol judges panel.
