American Idol Goes for Brooke

Brooke White is slated to perform (along with guest-mentor Adam Lambert) on Wednesday's American Idol results show in a duet with Miley Cyrus's ex Justin Gaston. The season seven fifth-place finisher is part of the web series If I Can Dream with Gaston and recent Idol castoff Alex Lambert, and she'll inevitably chirp something along the lines of her gentle "You're So Vain"/"Let it Be" triumphs. My response? I could skip this second-rate Didi Benami. Sorry, but where's the urgency? The hurt? The fiiii-yahhhhhh-herrrrrrr? If you ask me, we need a results-night comeback from a true Idol gem. I'm talking about the best contestant in the show's history -- and resident funny valentine -- Melinda Doolittle. [EW]

You and Doolittle again! Louis, I don't think her post-Idol career is paying her enough royalties to keep you on retainer.

  • Louis Virtel says:

If Melinda Doolittle was 7 like Jordin Sparks, she'd have the same career. Unfortunately, she was an experienced, controlled, un-cloying vocalist whose sophistication outclassed every other competitor and intimidated the voting public. I mean, she lost to Blake Lewis. There's no justifying that. I want to beatbox my face when I hear that. If only she'd record probing songs of the soul like "Like a Tattoo" and "No Air" -- then she'd be "relevant." Ugh.

Melinda needs to introduce her actual "Gayles," ifyouknowhatimean. Otherwise, she's way too personality-free for me, and I'm not interested in that from a singer.

  • Louis Virtel says:

Why are you Wrongzilla? Hiding in the basement from you.

I am definitely in Louis' corner on this one. Melinda was one of the best Idol contestants ever, and it's a crying shame if she's not getting the success her talent deserves. I hope one of those very rich, very successful singers - or talk show hosts - out there has the class to promote this very talented woman. If she's not doing well, she needs a good friend.
