Tik Tok: V Countdown Clock During Lost Infuriates Everyone

Who knew that ABC hired Ben Silverman to consult with their marketing choices? In a move straight out of the NBC playbook (the one called "How to Alienate Viewers and Lose Fans"), the network turned last night's all-new episode of Lost into one long commercial for the return of V. And as if the incessant mentions and the "Anna likes Lost too!" promos weren't enough, ABC decided to place a distractingly large countdown clock in the right corner of the screen to let viewers know how much longer they had to wait for V to start. Because, y'know, fans of Lost would never lose their minds over something like that and take to Twitter to let the world know. After the jump, see some choice reactions and find out who said that the mastermind behind the countdown clock "should be kicked in the nuts, repeatedly." Fun!

Newark Star-Ledger television critic Alan Sepinwall: "Well-done, ABC. Really freaking well-done."

Fox News contributor Andy Levy: "Whoever made the decision to put up the V countdown clock during Lost should be fired, or kicked in the nuts repeatedly until he quits."

ESPN writer Bill Simmons: "To the ABC exec who decided to put the V countdown clock on the bottom of the Lost screen... I hate you. Passionately."

Lost executive producer Damon Lindelof: "Yes, people, I saw it too. :34 minutes until I cry myself to sleep."

Former The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien blogger Aaron Bleyaert: "Hey ABC, here is a great way to make sure I never, ever, EVER watch the show V: put a giant f*cking bright red V bug over all of Lost."

And my personal favorite:

"Masked Scheduler": "What's with this f*cking countdown clock?"

Ughh!! This sooo pissed me off. I don't mind having something there but when obstructs the story (as the above pic shows) and leaves you wondering, did i miss something important, well...I call war!

  • nedrick says:

It's not like this episode had a lot of subtitles or anything. Oh, wait...

  • DarkKnightShyamalan says:

Thank you, ABC, for mangling the show I like to tell me about the stupid show I'll never watch.

  • CiscoMan says:

Though this was a terrible choice, ABC is hardly the first. I think TNT is the King of Ad Bugs. They always have Kyra Sedgewick pop up WITH A FLASHLIGHT to take over a good portion of the screen to pimp The Closer.

  • AcidCat says:

Even as someone who had watched the first episodes of V and was planning to watch the new ones, that V was infuriating and unacceptable. Not watching another V episode because I absolutely cannot support that kind of intrusive advertising.

  • rrn124 says:

I, too, had intended to watch "V" after Lost (after being hooked the previous week). I became so aggravated during Lost that I did not and will not ever watch another "V" episode. That was ridiculous!!

  • Dimo says:

A countdown to V clock would have helped me have more realistic expectations in high school.

  • Andyboy says:

I missed the whole thing. Maybe next time ABC can put up a countdown clock to the V countdown clock.

  • Derrick says:

I have a plasma tv and after watching Lost for an hour I had a ghost V image in my screen for awhile.

  • Mary says:

I simply shut it off and will never watch either again...I'm done with TNT as well. Since that nonsense I have removed TNT from the memory of my television channel choices.
