Heroic-ish Child-Rescuer Lindsay Lohan Faces Ban From India

No good deed goes unpunished -- especially in India, where Lindsay Lohan will reportedly learn the hard way that you just can't go around branding yourself as the Oskar Schindler of New Delhi. The controversy stems from a visit the actress made to the country last December, where she participated in a documentary about the exploitation of Indian women and children. Which wouldn't have been so bad -- except for the tweets that followed.

"Over 40 children saved so far...... Within one day's work...... This is what life is about..... Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!" Lohan blared over Twitter during her journey, purporting to have single-handedly saved the kids from lives of servitude and trafficking. Not so fast, replied the activists who led the raid that saved the kids, explaining further that Lohan didn't actually arrive on the scene until after the work was done.

Worse still, argues the aggrieved, embarrassed Indian government, Lohan broke the law by declaring herself a tourist and then showing up in an expose on BBC. "Now she may not be able to visit India again after officials looked at her case and found she had failed to apply for a work visa for her trip," reports the Telegraph. "Senior civil servants in New Delhi are now studying the case and will rule on whether her name will be added to an immigration blacklist."

Ugh. All she wanted to do was help! And it's not like Lohan is some child-rescuing dilettante; just look at all the effort she's putting in on behalf of that infant "milkaholic Lindsay" from the E-Trade commercials. This isn't that pushover Danny Boyle we're talking about here. It's Lindsay Freaking Lohan. Come correct, already, India.
