Late Night Highlights: The Best and Worst of the St. Patrick's Day Tributes

While you were face down in a puddle of green beer last night, the late-night hosts donned their best St. Patty's gear and celebrated the holiday in their own special ways. Jimmy Fallon sang an Irish folk song in a funny green hat, Jay Leno hit the streets for a St. Patrick's Day-themed edition of Jaywalking, Comedy Central honored the greenest drug of all and David Letterman -- well -- he was still trying to figure out "that Twitter machine." Click through for the holiday-themed segments, ranked from worst (Blimey!) to best.

5. Driving Green with the D.O.G.G.

Who better to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with than the greenest rapper of them all, Snoop Dogg. 'The High Fella' used his segment on the Daily Show to plug his new DVD Malice in Wonderland, recall when white people were scared of him and celebrate that fact that his voice can now be heard on certain G.P.S. systems.

4. A Green Countdown

You would think that David Letterman has a dozen St. Patrick's Day-themed Top Ten lists stored in a safety deposit box somewhere so that if a kind of national disaster hits, America can still enjoy climbing to the top 'o the festive countdown each March.

3. Jaywalking on St. Patty's

Jay Leno may not be Irish but that doesn't mean he is without his March 17 traditions. Each year, Jay wakes up, pulls his Jaywalking mic out from underneath his pillow, pours himself a glass of green milk (Mavis dyes it the night before), grabs his leather jacket and then trolls the streets looking for people who are blissfully ignorant of the holiday's history. This year, Leno hit a Jaywalk jackpot by interviewing a Soul Train host on Sunset and goading him into a river dance for Tonight Show cameras.

2. "Irish Spring Breaker"

When it comes to production design, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon consistently has the most festive stage decorations. Last night's celebration of the Irish was no different, with green mood lighting, accents for the band and a Wheel of Green Carpet samples that bored viewers during the show's segment. Fortunately, Fallon recovered from the mold-colored shag with this original song celebrating the fact that the holiday falls during spring break.

1. "It's Like I'm Finally Getting River Dance"

Stephen Colbert jumped into the festivities with a news story about the decreasing number of shamrocks in Ireland. Fortunately for the country, the Colbert Report host found a plant that would actually symbolize better luck since it has five leaves instead of three.
