Marty Madness: Shutter Island Viewer Stabbed With Meat Thermometer

shutter_island_dicaprio.jpg

You may have thought you'd heard everything from the Annals of Moviegoing Violence after that 2008 incident involving a chatty moviegoer and the man who shot him. Then along comes this: A man was stabbed in the neck with a meat thermometer at a recent screening of Shutter Island in Lancaster, Calif.

According to reports, the unidentified victim had complained to a nearby viewer who was on her cell phone during the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio hit. She left with two men, and moments later, the men (or two others; reports are vague) returned to stick him with the kitchen implement like a roast. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition; the suspects are still at large.

It gets crazier: The incident happened two weeks ago, yet was only reported Tuesday. So heads up, Lancaster! That woman on the phone next to you this weekend at Alice in Wonderland? Maybe just let her talk.

Judging by what the thermometer says the victim didn't feel all to hot about it.

  • HwoodHills says:

If this happened in San Francisco that Headline would have a whole different connotation.

  • SunnydaZe says:

Actually, this is Hollywood's new version of "test screening". If an audience member's body temperature drops below a certain point they re-shoot the film's ending.

    Well done.

I guess the victim knew when they were "done".

  • Lancaster Resident says:

Umm, the AV press reported it the next day, it just took a while for LA to remember Lancaster is in its county to report it. Happens alot more than anyone realizes. Lancaster is like the hemorrhoid of LA County

Shit like this is why internet piracy of movies will thrive. I for one cannot stand to be in a theater that is even remotely crowded as invariably somebody has to play with their f*cking phone half the time and it is distracting from my $40 dollar movie going experience $13 a ticket and then another $14 to share a popcorn and a soda with a date. Theaters should install cell phone signal jammers and eject people who can't go 5 minutes with out sending a text message.

    Amen, brother!

  • Mel says:

From what I've heard, this movie isn't that great. That cell phone conversation may have been more interesting to listen to instead of watching the film...
