Hollywood Ink: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts Reunite in Crisis Mode

· Tom Hanks has written and will direct and star in Larry Crowne, about a man's adjustment to a tough mid-life career change. Thankfully he won't have to face the drama alone -- Hanks's Charlie Wilson's War co-star Julia Roberts is also aboard to aid his transition. No truth to the rumor that this is just a American riff on its rhyming British counterpart Harry Brown, featuring Michael Caine in a late-life career change as a vigilante, though by the sound of it that might be a lot more fun. Robert Zemeckis selects his Beatles, Paramount saves the date for a Star Trek sequel, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump.

· Robert Zemeckis's remake of the Beatles musical Yellow Submarine has its eye on a Fab Four of Cary Elwes as George Harrison, Dean Lennox Kelly as John Lennon, Peter Serafinowicz as Paul McCartney and Adam Campbell as Ringo Starr. Zemeckis will once again employ 3-D performance-capture for the film, setting it up to usurp Avatar's standing as the most expensive, elaborate drug movie ever made. [THR]

· So at least we know when the Spider-Man reboot won't open in 2012: Paramount has chosen June 29 of that year as the launch date for Star Trek 2. The studio is also officially moving forward with a G.I. Joe sequel, surprise, whatever. [Variety]

· Training Day director Antoine Fuqua is in line to direct the spy thriller Consent to Kill for CBS Films, about an agent who battles an array of nemeses while nursing a knee injury. Or at least that's what the source novel is about; the studio is reportedly keeping the adaptation's log line on the downlow. [Variety]

· Hollywood titans Terry Semel and Arnon Milchan are contemplating launching a billion-dollar fund to help finance and produce studio films. Must be nice. [THR]

From the pitch meeting for Consent to Kill:
-- "It's kinda like the CIA meets MCL."

  • Tom Hanks in my view is the most effective lead actor in movie history with his movies grossing over $8 billion dollars worldwide it comes to no surprise he's minted! and well earned. My favourite movies are, The Da Vinci Code, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan , and Cast Away.
