Zombieland Director Ruben Fleischer: My Fave Five for 2009

We know you're almost ready to count down the final moments of 2009, but why not do it with some talented company? The latest contributor to our Fave Five project is director Ruben Fleischer, who had a home run debut this fall with the action comedy Zombieland. Fleischer's next project may be a 3D sequel to that film, a tidbit that makes the first inclusion on his Fave Five list all the more auspicious:

"Blew my mind. Haven't felt like a kid watching a movie in a long time. Was lucky enough to see it followed by a Q&A by Mr. Cameron himself where he broke down the filmmaking process a bit and assured me I have a whole lot to learn about directing."

Eastbound and Down

"Kenny fucking Powers. Jody Hill, Danny McBride, and Ben Best created what might be one of my favorite television shows of all time. I love the lead character, as well as the supporting cast, made of some lesser-known, but amazingly talented actors. I find KP to be sympathetic despite being the world's biggest asshole. The tone is so hard to achieve, but they have done an excellent job, and the show pushes the boundaries on what is acceptable behavior on television."

Band of Horses

"I didn't know this band, but was introduced to them this year through the process of looking for songs for Zombieland. They are now one of my all time favorite bands, and I feel lucky to have gotten to feature them in the movie, as well as to have gone and seen them play live at the Nokia."

Comedy Death Ray Christmas Spectacular

"Maybe the best comedy show I have ever seen? Five hours of nonstop belly laughs. Highlights include an opening pop culture round up which included Jon Hamm as Don Draper in costume smoking on stage, a live Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis featuring an audience member and Ben Stiller, and a Tenacious D live set made up of never-before-heard songs."

Making my first movie

"Such a dream come true experience, from casting, to shooting, to release. So many amazing experiences and so many lessons learned. Just makes me want to make another movie so badly. And three final words... Bill Fuckin' Murray."
