TV Host Dave Holmes: My Fave Five of 2009

Because you loved them so much last week, we're carrying our Fave Five feature through to the end of the year. Next up is one from former MTV VJ, television host and writer/comedian, Dave Holmes. What were his five biggest pop culture weaknesses of the past year? Let's examine the situation. (Lifts up shirt, flexes abdominals until they spell out "2009".)

Jersey Shore

"I am officially numb to the sex, violence and ham-eating, and now I just watch for the slaughter of the English language. It's like if Amelia Bedelia were drunk, orange and sexually compulsive."

Jimmy Pardo and Paul F. Tompkins

"Los Angeles is home to the two best comics in the world right now, playing at the absolute top of their game. If you haven't seen Pardo at UCB or Tompkins at Largo, you're missing out on something hilarious and inspiring."

Glee

"Like all musicals, it brings me joy and discomfort at the same time, but it's refreshing to see effort and sincerity again. Plus, dreamboat city."

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

"This band reminds me of something I would have played on college radio in 1991, and I'm glad I don't live in Williamsburg so I can enjoy it without feeling like I'm 250 years old."

30 Rock

"This clip captures exactly how it feels to be on camera, and it made me laugh harder than anything else this year."
