Did the SAG Television Nominations Redeem Poor Golden Globe Choices?

The SAG television nominations may seem trivial when compared to the Golden Globes (which seem trivial in comparison to the Emmys and the Oscars, which both seem trivial in comparison to the work), but the 2009 honorees include a bunch of actors and TV shows shafted by the Hollywood Foreign Press. The biggest redeeming nomination: Bryan Cranston's work on Breaking Bad. But after the jump, we outline where the SAGs differed from the Globes, including the new drama that landed a big nomination for Best Ensemble Cast, and the minimal love for the cast of Glee.

The SAG "Best Ensemble Cast" award does not honor the same thing as the Globes' "Best Television Series" trophy, but for comparative purposes, let's say the top honors match up. All of the bolded nominations were overlooked by the Hollywood Foreign Press's Golden Globe list.

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series:

The Closer

Dexter

The Good Wife

Mad Men

True Blood

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series:

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Glee

Modern Family

The Office

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series:

Michael C. Hall, Dexter

Jon Hamm, Mad Men

Hugh Laurie, House

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Drama Series:

Patricia Arquette, Medium

Glenn Close, 'Damages'

Mariska Hargitay, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Holly Hunter, Saving Grace

Julianna Margulies, 'The Good Wife'

Kyra Sedgwick, 'The Closer'

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series:

Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

Steve Carell, The Office

Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm

Tony Shalhoub, Monk

Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half Men

SAG Nominations 2010 on Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy Series:

Christina Applegate, Samantha Who?

Toni Collette, The United States of Tara

Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie

Tina Fey, 30 Rock

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, The New Adventures of Old Christine

The trade-off is sometimes dubious. Charlie Sheen gets a nom over Thomas Jane? Mariska Hargitay beats both January Jones and Elisabeth Moss? I approve of newbie The Good Wife's big pick-up in the Best Drama Ensemble list, but isn't Golden Globe honoree Big Love more of an ensemble, really? And a powerhouse? Fortunately, SAG gave Glee's pie-eyed individual performances the shaft and handed accolades to the deserving Tony Shalhoub and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Try blowing the whistle at that, Sue Sylvester.

Until these guys recognize the greatness that is LOST it's all as maybe to me. I don't watch any of the SAG top shows except Glee and 30 Rock...my shows don't garner accolades. Just passionate fans.

They gave a nod to Charlie Sheen as a lecherous arrested adolescent? What, is there a super-premium on method with this group?
