Tobey Maguire May Make Hobbit a Habit

For months now, J.R.R. Tolkien fans have been itching for some casting announcements to come out of Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of The Hobbit. Sure, Ian McKellen's coming back, but who's going to play the young version of Bilbo Baggins, the character Ian Holm inhabited in Peter Jackson's first trilogy? Official word is due soon, but a strong rumor's begun making the rounds.

Latino Review got a tip that Tobey Maguire let slip at a recent Brothers junket that he might be working with del Toro sometime in the near future, and after some investigation, the site learned that Maguire is currently in talks for Bilbo. If the actor signs, he'd go straight from the set of Spider-Man 4 to The Hobbit, which is now set to start shooting in June.

James McAvoy name had long been thrown around for the role, but then again, Maguire already replaced McAvoy once before when he stepped into The Details this past July. Will Maguire end up with two mega-tentpoles in 2011? Developing...
